June 30 2013 “Discerning of Spirits and Holy Ground”

Prior to Joshua leading Israel in taking the city of Jericho, his spiritual eyes were open to see a man with a sword drawn.  Joshua asked, are you for us or the adversaries.  Surprisingly, the answer was neither  but “as the Captain of the Host, I have come.”  Most people believe this to be a Christophany – a revelation of Jesus Christ in Old Testament time.
Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped.  He then asked, “What does my Lord say to his servant?”  The response was, “Take off your sandals for you are on holy ground.”  Joshua did what he was asked.  We are then told that Jericho was securely shut up and God said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, its king and the mighty men of valor.”
Joshua challenging the man is a type of the spiritual gift of “discerning of spirits”.  This is in agreement with the word of God that mandates we “test every spirit to see if  “it be of God”.
Prayer Point #1:  That we distinguish good from evil spirits at work in our cities so we might know how to pray.
Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped and desired to  know what God was requiring of him to which the Lord responded, “Take off your sandals – this is holy ground.”
Prayer Point #2: That we understand that God already stands upon the ground of possession and that we are to treat our mission as holy as we redeem the land through intercession.
Prayer Point ‘#3:  That we have eyes to see that the victory is already ours through the blood of Jesus and that God has put some of the leaders of the city in our hands – not for destruction but for salvation.
