Wednesday October 23, 2013 “Consider the Lilies”

Remembering Isaiah 1:3 “… My people don’t consider” so let us consider Matthew 6:28-29 “28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.”
Yes, consider the lilies – their beauty is without effort, for God beautifies them (v. 30) even though their beauty fades quickly.  In this Gospel text which continues through the end of this chapter, Jesus teaches us that we are not to focus on how God will provide for our daily needs, but to keep our eyes on the Lord and live righteously.  Matthew 6:33 “33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Pray in agreement today that as a nation we will learn to adjust our gaze – not looking to government but God to meet our needs in these unsure times.  Our children must have trust in God to have hope for the future.  Jesus said the people in His day had “little faith” in verse 30.  Let’s use that faith and plant it in the hearts of young Americans through our example.
