Saturday November 30, 2013 “Thanks for the Leftover”

Philippians 4:6-8 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.  Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
Paul takes us from peace to prayer, then to thanks and finally thoughts.  Tucked in the middle is found thanksgiving.  Not the holiday but the attitude.
Thanksgiving is a vital part of answered prayer.  Sometimes it is difficult to give thanks but we must.  One way that I have found to be thankful in even the worse situation is to give thanks for what is left and not being remorseful over what is lost.  I encourage you to begin praying this way.  Giving thanks with a thankful heart for what remains, you will discover that God will work with that even small portion as He did with the woman’s small amount of meal that sustained her, her son and the prophet in the Hebrew scripture.
