Monday December 23, 2013 “Expectation”

Luke 2:8-11 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
The Word of God is clear in the fact that God appears and reveals Himself and the Truth to those who seek Him. The shepherds had looked into the skies around Bethlehem hundreds of nights. In the Book of Psalms we are told the heavens declare God’s glory. Man is drawn to that glory.
On that night of nights when Jesus was born, the shepherds had a heart to see what others may have missed. As the highest hills catch the first glory beams of the rising sun, so the shepherds standing on the mountaintop of expectation were bathed with the glory revealed which would bless a sleeping world.
Today let our prayer of agreement be that a heightened expectation be found among God’s people concerning the second coming of our Lord, that will move us as the shepherds were motivated to go and see what the Angels declared to them on the first Christmas day. That we would then go and tell that message of hope, peace and joy.
