Sunday, February 23, 2014 “Hope and a Future”

Welcome to Sunday evening’s prayer gathering from 6-9 pm (all time zones). Tonight we will pray in agreement concerning three prayer points aimed at seeing God’s hand of blessing released upon His people across the nation.
This week, we will look at 2 Kings 4:1-7. Join us now as we intercede on behalf of America and our people.
“A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.”
“So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.” Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few.  And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.” So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out.  Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “There is not another vessel.” So the oil ceased.  Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.” (2 Kings 4:1-7)
There are many people suffering today from the pain caused by the lack of finances for one reason or another. People are in need of a miracle, and tonight we will begin with three prayer focus points for those caught in the web of financial chaos.
 1)  Miracles are not simply for a display of God’s mighty power, but as we see in this story, miracles meet practical needs. Pray tonight that people will see God as the answer to the difficulties they are experiencing, and that He is concerned about their lives and stands ready to relieve their suffering as they place their trust in Him.
 2)  In the days we read of in 2 Kings 4, many people had turned their back on the one true God due to the recent idolatry King Ahab and Jezebel had led God’s people into. We are told that the “son of the prophets” was a man who feared the Lord and he was probably one that God spoke of who had not bowed their knee to Baal. Pray tonight that people who find themselves in difficult situations like the widow woman in the Bible text not turn to sources for help that will compromise their integrity or jeopardize their family’s future.
 3)  Storm clouds can roll in quickly and can create fear and the feeling of being without hope in the world. Pray that people of faith will remember that as God put a rainbow in the sky after the flood as a reminder of His promise that He would never again destroy the earth by a flood, He gives us promises of a hope and a future. Pray that there be many who will be like Father Abraham who believed against all hope and God answered His prayers.
