Sunday March 9, 2014 “Prayers and Tears”

Welcome to our Sunday evening prayers of agreement for our cities and nation.  It is asked that you intercede for at least 15 minutes between the hours of 6 and 9 pm (all time zones).  There is a gathering of hearts every Sunday evening 8-9 pm  E.S.T.
Tonight we begin to look at the Book of Nehemiah and the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls by this great man of God and Cupbearer to King Artaxerxes in Babylon.
Neh. 1:2-6     that Hanani one of my brethren came with men from Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews who had escaped, who had survived the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem. And they said to me, “The survivors who are left from the captivity in the province are there in great distress and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.”
So it was, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven.
And I said: “I pray, Lord God of heaven, O great and awesome God, You who keep Your covenant and mercy with those who love You and observe Your  commandments, please let Your ear be attentive and Your eyes open, that You may hear the prayer of Your servant which I pray before You now, day and night, for the children of Israel Your servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against You. Both my father’s house and I have sinned.
The man of God is told about the deplorable state of affairs in his country and the beloved city of Jerusalem.  The walls lie in rubble; the gates are burned with fire resulting in distress and reproach.
Tonight we will focus on 3 prayer points but let us first of also consider the reaction to the “news” on the Prophet Nehemiah.  His heart was broken, he fasted and prayed.  This stands in stark contrast to most of the Christ Body, the church, that is so in love with the things of this world that they fail to allow the news of a broken nation, our nation, grip their hearts.
Failed systems and modern values not based upon the Word of God have resulted in “busted budgets”, a weakened status in world politics and rampant sin that has influenced  government to the point where those who are to be “keepers of the gates” have set aside the “rule of law” for the applause of men.
Prayer focus #1  That the hearts of believers be moved in America to tears and fasting over our broken nation.
Prayer focus #2  Pray that God cleanse the land of the sins of the current and past generations as Nehemiah did in v.6.  We have truly “sown to the wind and reaped a whirlwind.”  The rebellion and pride of the God–rejecting “No gates or walls needed here” attitude has come to fruition and we must repent of our living “outside the lines” which has caused much distress.
We have allowed the desires of a few to direct our steps toward self-destruction. It is time to allow the news of such a lack of moral fabric in America to break our heart which will allow the tears to flow and prayers increase in fervency and frequency so that there might be seeds of restoration planted in the land.
Prayer focus #3  Pray that God look upon us with His love and His eyes open and ears attentive v.6 to both the situations we face as a people and the broken hearts of His people over the devastation caused due to a lack of respect for the Word of God in America by non-believers and Christians alike.
Please try to get others involved in We Are The People.  God is calling out for intercessors.
