Sunday March 23, 2014 “Persevere in Times of Opposition”

Nehemiah 4:2,8,9And he spoke before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, “What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they fortify themselves? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they complete it in a day? Will they revive the stones from the heaps of rubbish—stones that are burned?”  and all of them conspired together to come and attack Jerusalem and create confusion. Nevertheless we made our prayer to our God, and because of them we set a watch against them day and night.”
Opposition or Persecution is never coveted but it is a reality whenever a restoring work is underway at any level in life whether it is an individual or a nation.  WeAreThePeople is concerned about our nation being restored to its righteous foundation upon the word of God.
Tonight we will have three prayer focuses that we ask you to join us in prayers of agreement between 6 and 9pm (all time zones) concerning God’s people and America returning to its roots.  The more a young oak is bent in the storm the deeper its roots strike into the stiff and stubborn soil beneath it.
Our country is greatly polarized and the opposition seems to be mounted against the Word of God, the people of God, and Jesus Christ.  Somehow what has made the United States strong has become the object of scorn by many.
Chapter 4 of the Book of Nehemiah provides us a guide for our prayers tonight.
Focus #1:  In verse 2 those in opposition to God’s command to rebuild sneered at the character, resources and attempt to succeed in their lofty goals to finish the work quickly.  The enemy also minimized the work even if it would be accomplished.  Verse 3 “A fox will be able to break down the rebuilt walls.”
Pray tonight that we who are committed to see America turn back to God and rebuilt upon our original foundations of the Bible and our constitution will not allow the words spoken against us which are lies to distract or delay us in our work.
Focus #2:  In verse 7 & 8 when the work of God began to take shape, the opposition conspired to attack and cause confusion and stop the good work God ordained.  There are many “strange bed-fellows” who are joining forces against righteousness in America today.
Pray that God’s people who are wiser than the enemy will stand strong in the Lord and that the attempt of the adversary to create confusion will fall upon their own swords as they did in 2 Chronicles Chapter 20 where three armies arrayed against Judah turned on one another destroying themselves as the people of God stood still and watched as the Lord fought the battle.
Focus #3:  Verse 10 “10 Then Judah said, “The strength of the laborers is failing, and there is so much rubbish that we are not able to build the wall.”
Opposition came not only from without but also from within.  Judah was discouraged because he lost sight of God seeing only the adversary’s strength and listened to his lies.  Sound familiar?  It should – the 10 spies sent to the Promised Land brought a discouraging report that delayed God’s plan 40 years.
Let us pray in agreement tonight that Christians listen to right voices that will result in good reports as Joshua and Caleb the other two sent to check out the land of promise gave to Israel, “We are well able to possess the land!”
Lift up your voice Church of Jesus Christ!!
