Monday March 31, 2014 “Unselfishness”

Neh. 5:8 And I said to them, “According to our ability we have redeemed our Jewish brethren who were sold to the nations. Now indeed, will you even sell your brethren? Or should they be sold to us?” Then they were silenced and found nothing to say.
Nehemiah sought to liberate as many of his people as he could through redemption and brought them back to freedom from godless and selfish heathen. Nehemiah used all of his means to do so. He is a perfect example of an unselfish man.
Yesterday we saw how the man of God rebuked leaders who practiced unfair economic policies. Today we find the Prophet courageously standing up to leaders who were engaged in “slave trade” more or less.
Let us pray in agreement today that God will raise up leaders like Nehemiah who will give their all as he did to see people liberated who had been “sold” into a system of dependency that was nothing less than enslavement.
Without one first giving of their time, talent and treasure to bring freedom their words and promises sound very hollow. There must always be a letting go of something to take hold another. Think of Jesus’ unselfish life and sacrificial death on the cross for our liberation from Satan’s power and sin.
