Tuesday April 22, 2014 “The Final Temptation of Nehemiah”

Nehemiah 6:10 “10 One day I went to the house of Shemaiah son of Delaiah, the son of Mehetabel, who was shut in at his home. He said, “Let us meet in the house of God, inside the temple, and let us close the temple doors, because men are coming to kill you—by night they are coming to kill you.”
This would be the last attempt to ensnare the man of God. This attack would be subtle. Shemaiah had the name of a prophet but the heart of a spiritual pauper. He tempted Nehemiah to enter a secret chamber in the temple, for that night his “enemies” would come to slay him. The snare was laid by the wolf in sheep’s clothing. The man Shemaiah was secretly in an alliance with the enemies of God. This final temptation would come as it were “an angel of light”.
As we agree in prayer today let’s remember the men and women of God who faithfully serve the Lord and face temptation through supposedly good men who desire to “meet” in the temple. Their goal is to distort God’s word in order to deceive and destroy the people of God.
Pray that godly Christ followers be blessed with the spiritual gift of “discerning of spirits” so they don’t fall into deception that dilutes God’s word and weakens His witness in this world. Pray for the spring primary elections that those who are nominated will not compromise their beliefs.
