Joshua 4:4-7
“4 Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man: 5 And Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of the Lord your God into the midst of Jordan, and take you up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel: 6 That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones? 7 Then ye shall answer them, that the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel forever.”
Prayer from 6 – 9:00p.m. – All time zones; a minimum of 15 minutes.
This being Memorial Day weekend, I thought it would be proper to set our prayer focus on Memorials. Arlington Nat’l Cemetery, Washington D.C., Battlefields and public cemeteries across America have memorials or monuments to mark certain events or people. In this Bible text we are a memorial being set up for remembrance of an awesome display of God’s power. Tonight we will discover 3 points of prayer concerning memorials. Memorials declare that there are witnesses to a person’s life or an event. They also declare that when duty called people rose to the occasion. Finally, the monument says what happened here has made a vast difference in many lives. First focus: Memorials declare that there were witnesses: Twelve men, one from every tribe of Israel, took a stone from the Jordan River to use in the construction of this great memorial that was intended to stand for all generations to see. Joshua 4:24 Pray in agreement tonight that our Senate and Congress will have men and women elected to these 2 legislative bodies that are personal witnesses to the power of Almighty God. Also pray that they will keep true to their testimony and faith. Prayer focus #2: Pray that people will respond to the call of duty in America to protect, legislate, govern and judge the great nation in righteousness and Truth. Memorials declare that people have answered the call of God to serve Him by serving man created in God’s image & likeness. Prayer focus #3: Pray that this Memorial Day weekend many people will take time to pause and consider how great an impact people who have served in our military have made in our nations and the world. Thank you for joining us tonight and I encourage you to thank a veteran or someone currently serving in our military for their service to America
