Monday, May 26, 2014 “Memorial Day”

1 Samuel 7:10-12
“10 And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the Lord thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel. 11 And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Bethcar. 12 Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the Lord helped us.”
All serious students of American history know of the many times the Lord has intervened and helped His people. There are many accounts that reveal God stepped onto the battlefield as a result of believing prayer. The life of George Washington is but one example of a man of prayer finding Divine intervention when he called upon God for help in times of incredible odds against the United States as a then young and fledgling nation.
Let us join our hearts in prayer today for military leaders. Ask God to bring them to the place where they will acknowledge that our help comes from the Lord who made Heaven and earth. We must raise our Ebenezer once again as a testimony to our dependence upon Almighty God. Also pray that God give protection to those gathering today for parades and memorial services to remember our fallen young men and women who have faithfully served this grateful nation. Thank a vet today.
