Saturday December 13, 2014 “Fasting and the Heart’s Intent”

Isaiah 58:3 ‘Why have we fasted,’ they say, ‘and You have not seen?
Why have we afflicted our souls, and You take no notice?’ “In fact, in the day of your fast you find pleasure, And exploit all your laborers.
Fasting and Prayer – Jesus tells us that there are some things that will not change unless His people exercise both fasting and prayer. It seems that in Isaiah’s day the people were not experiencing the blessing they expected in response to their fast. The reason for this is the people simply used fasting as a means to an end.
Pray in agreement today that God’s people have the right intention when exercising this spiritual discipline. Fasting is to be a means of drawing closer to God so we can hear his voice as we “lean in close” to His heart in prayer and then act upon God’s counsel through His empowerment.
