Friday January 16, 2015 “Minimizing the Risks”

Matthew 5:29-30    29 If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.
Jesus uses hyperbole to drive home His point in the previous blog concerning adultery. Jesus is not teaching the literal severing of limbs and plucking out the eye. He is emphasizing the seriousness of sin because it separates us from God. We must minimize the risk of distancing ourself from God.
Today let us agree in prayer that Christians show their love for God by “cutting off” places and situations that take them dangerously close to sin that creates a chasm between men and the Savior. This will bring a powerful message to a watching world of our love for Jesus Christ.
