Monday April 27, 2015 “Blessed with the Kingdom”

Matthew 5:1-3 “And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Jesus pronounced people blessed from the mountaintop.  That is where people expect blessing – when we are riding high.  But Jesus first addresses “poor in spirit” as blessed with the kingdom of heaven.  Poor in spirit can mean one understands where they are without God in their life.  This is the place of true humility and Jesus taught along with the apostles in their letters that the humble shall be lifted up.
Pray today that believer’s in our great land understand that blessing doesn’t always equate with “mountaintop” experiences.  When we recognize blessing pronounced by God upon us in the valley we can rise up and find the blessings of God’s kingdom that never changes – in valleys or mountains those blessings make rich and there is no sorrow added to the blessing of heaven in our lives.
