Sunday May 3, 2015 Weekly Prayer Focus

Matthew 5: 10-12 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you”
Welcome to the Sunday Evening edition of “We are the People.” Tonight we will pray in agreement focusing on 3 points of intercession between the hours of 6 and 9 pm (all time zones). May God richly bless you as you partner in prayer for this nation we love.
In Jesus’ day, Israel’s political situation in the world had changed dramatically for the worse. The nation was smashed by the Exile and Pagan enemies ruled the now vassal state of Israel that was in subjugation to Rome. The faithful were subject to cruel persecution and they were threatened with extinction. Since that time Israel has undergone these same circumstances many times and now it seems that Christian America is suffering the same assault on our beliefs and lifestyle as the Jewish people have and are suffering today.
As we pray this night let us pray that lawmakers and decision makers will choose to use the Word of God as a guide in directing our nation in righteousness and that believers live the truth Jesus reveals in this text.
Prayer Focus #1 Pray that Christian believers will courageously stand for righteousness during this time when the word of God is under attack. Ask God to reveal the truth in the hearts of His people that the Kingdom of God in their heart cannot be destroyed by the attack of Satan upon our liberties and the truth of God’s Word.
Prayer Focus #2 Pray in agreement this night that God will expose the lying spirits that speak evil against God’s Word and His people as the work of the devil who attempts to divide and conquer. Call upon the Lord to reveal that He confers blessing upon us during days of persecution and malicious attacks of the evil one – the father of lies. The greatest blessing is to love one another. This is a sign to those who do not believe that God cares and is drawing people to Himself through the love of His followers.
Prayer Focus #3 Jesus said to rejoice and be glad when persecuted. Why? Because there is a heavenly reward to come when a believer remains faithful to God and His Word when finding one’s self under siege by the enemy.
Pray that God’s people maintain a sweet spirit no matter whether we see the culture war turn in our favor or not because there is an eternity with total righteousness that awaits the Faithful.
Remember Thursday May 7 is the National Day of Prayer. There is a gathering at the Fairfax County Va. Government Center noon to 1 pm.
