Saturday May 9, 2015 “Righteousness that Exceeds”
Matthew 5:20 “For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.”
Jesus announces that the Kingdom of God is present and he invites people to enter into it. The righteousness of the Pharisees was nothing but pride and an external show before man. Jesus said, “If we are to enter the Kingdom of God, we must exceed the Pharisees.” That means what we do that reflects the Kingdom of God on earth must come from our heart not “put on” as a show.
Let us agree in prayer today that the “Holier than thou” among us in the church have a change of heart so that our works and motives are pure and God initiated. This will allow us to enter the Kingdom and enjoy its liberating effects in life.
