Sunday July 26, 2015 “Return and Listen”

Zechariah 1:3-4 “Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Return to Me,” says the Lord of hosts, “and I will return to you,” says the Lord of hosts. “Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets preached, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Turn now from your evil ways and your evil deeds.”’ But they did not hear nor heed Me,” says the Lord.”
Welcome to the Sunday Night Edition of “We Are The People.” Tonight we will pray in agreement with three prayer points concerning America the land we love. We ask that you pray 15 minutes between the hours of 6 and 9 pm. (All time zones)
This week we will begin to look at the book of Zechariah whose name means “God Remembers” and see how God dealt with Israel of old. This gives us a pattern to follow in finding the will of God for America today. Thanks for joining us and please invite someone to join with us in intercession for our nation.
Prayer Focus #1 “Return to me, I will return to you.” Many times we request revival from God and blessing to be restored to our land. The only thing is God calls us first, as believers, to return to Him which means to repent (turn from every sin).
Some think repentance is merely confession of sin. That is just the beginning of a journey to return to God. The Church of Jesus Christ must return to God with cleans hands and pure hearts. When we do this God will return to us. In the New Testament Book of James 4:8 we are told, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” To do that the verse continues, “Cleanse your hands and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
Pray in agreement tonight that God’s people will choose to draw near to God through Biblical repentance, thus opening the way for God to visit our land. It is time for God’s people to lead the way in returning to the Lord and not expecting Him to break His word to somehow answer our prayers.
Prayer Focus #2 “Don’t be like your fathers.” We are not called to be “a chip off the old block.” We are to shine brighter every day as a Christ-follower. We must exceed the righteousness of the Pharisees, as Jesus said in Matthew 5:20. The Pharisees told people what to do but they didn’t do those things themselves. They also interpreted the law to fit their own lifestyle habits.
Pray tonight that we who are American Christians will not settle for this kind of lifestyle but choose to allow the Spirit of God to put us on the right side of battles we face as a nation in regard to morals, values and righteousness. The lines have become blurred so much, the bleeding-hearted people of God align themselves many times with those who hurt more than with the righteous standards of truth found in the word of God.
Believers are not to be people who just comfort the hurting. We are also to be those who lead the way in righteousness. Many of “the fathers” failed to do that which has led to a state of bondage for many who benefit from the bleeding which is a pseudo-compassion.
Prayer Focus #3 “Your fathers did not hear nor heed Me.” The first step in returning to God is people hearing God’s Word. Students have not heard the Word of God in our public schools for over 50 years now and it is evident that faith has not come by hearing God’s Word. Romans 10:17
Pray today that churches hosting Vacation Bible Schools, Bible Clubs and Camps will be successful in reaching children for Jesus Christ who would not otherwise hear God’s words of grace, love and forgiveness. It is impossible for people to obey God’s Word unless they are taught its truth. Romans 10:14-1514 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!”
