We Are The People

Zechariah 5:5-11 “⁵ Then the angel who talked with me came out and said to me, “Lift your eyes now, and see what this is that goes forth.”  ⁶ So I asked, “What is it?” And he said, “It is a basket that is going forth.”  He also said, “This is their resemblance throughout the earth: ⁷ Here is a lead disc lifted up, and this is a woman sitting inside the basket”; ⁸ then he said, “This is Wickedness!” And he thrust her down into the basket, and threw the lead cover over its mouth. ⁹ Then I raised my eyes and looked, and there were two women, coming with the wind in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between earth and heaven.  ¹⁰ So I said to the angel who talked with me, “Where are they carrying the basket?”  ¹¹ And he said to me, “To build a house for it in the land of Shinar; when it is ready, the basket will be set there on its base.”

 In context God is revealing that His children, Israel, had become evil and that they would soon enter captivity that was unavoidable at that time because of their wickedness.  Not the best way to begin tonight but …

The woman in the basked is covered securely with a heavy object guaranteeing no means of escape.  The vision showed that there were two women who carried them away to their “home” for many years.  “Home” would be a place where the basket would be set on a base – set like a trophy in a foreign land.  This would be a sign to other nations as to the fate of a nation that turns their back on God.

Prayer Focus #1:  God wanted the prophet to see what was happening.  It is so easy to turn a “blind eye” to the obvious.  At times what we see is obvious and the wickedness so bad we do not want to see the evil.  Unfortunately we do nothing to help the struggling people who are bound to the sin and pain of their unrighteousness.

Pray in agreement today that God’s people open their eyes to see the evil that has ensnared so many in America today before it is too late.  The “two women” with wings are between heaven and earth awaiting the Lord’s command.  If we intervene and stand in the gap our nation will stand strong in this evil day.  If not we will be taken to places we do not want to go.

Prayer Focus #2:  Verse 10 the Prophet asked, “Where are they carrying the basket?”  The basket was between heaven and earth at the time.  In other words the future of God’s people hung in the balance.  Pray tonight that God’s people see the state of America being as one “hanging in the balance”.  Our response should be one that is quick, for as we are taught in the Book of Romans God can do a quick work of righteousness in our day if we see that God is in need of intercessors and respond in prayer and godly action to reverse the curse on our land.

Prayer Focus #3:  Verse 11 reveals that it would be a public humiliation for God’s people to be captive in Shinar.  In the Book of Revelation Chapters 17 & 18 the Lord reveals that in one day “Mystery Babylon” would be destroyed and the whole world will know.  Pray tonight that the church of Jesus Christ will understand how quickly judgment can come and that it be vigilant in watching and prayer.  Pray also that we sound a clear warning concerning sin and its destructive force in our personal lives and as a nation.
