Sunday June 5, 2016 “To Be Watchmen”

Genesis 4:9  Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?”  He said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”
Good evening and welcome to the Sunday Night Edition of We Are the People Prayer for America.  It is asked that each person invest a minimum of 15 minutes in intercession using the 3 points listed below as a guide. Please invite others to join us as we stand in the gap for this land we love.
Cain attempted to convince God that he was not his brother Abel’s keeper.  God knew otherwise for he created man to watch over one another. When Cain asked, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” the Hebrew original word for keeper is the same word used for watchman in many places in the Hebrew scripture.
A watchman was generally a man who watched for enemy advancement on their city. The watch was from the city walls.  We are our brother’s keeper and God calls us to question today as He did with Cain concerning his brother.
Prayer Focus #1  Pray that Christians in America will assume their role as Watchmen over their cities. Schools have to deal with transgender issues, law enforcement have gang and drug issues, mayors and councils or Supervisor Boards have the almost impossible task of keeping the public policy fair and unbiased. We can and will make a difference with our prayers and subsequent actions. Take responsibility for your city.
Prayer Focus #2  In Genesis 2:15 Adam was given the task of keeping the Garden of Eden. Again the word keep is to be a watchman.
The Garden was a perfect place for man to live.
The closest thing to a perfect place on the Earth today is the church, the Body of Christ.  As we intercede tonight let us ask God to impress upon church members that they are to watch and pray concerning the church. The enemy likes nothing more than to have the culture inspired by the evil one to influence the attitudes and behaviors of church members.  Sound the alarm when necessary and pray without ceasing a warning against unrighteousness.
Prayer Focus #3  In Luke 22 Jesus is seen as  Peter’s personal “keeper”.  Satan had hoped through the events of Christ’s Gethsemane experience, arrest and crucifixion that he could bring down the big man. Jesus prayed and Peter was strengthened. Right now God is placing a person on your heart.  Pray for that person now.
