Friday December 23, 2016 “Pain and Hopelessness”

Matthew 2:16-18  16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men. 17 Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying: 18 “A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning,
Rachel weeping for her children, Refusing to be comforted, Because they are no more.”
The overriding theme of the Christmas story is undoubtedly joy. But as we have seen this week there are many other emotions that people displayed in that first Christmas story.
Babies two years of age and younger were killed by order of King Herod.  This caused a deep lamentation by the mothers of these little ones. There are many who feel pain, sorrow and hopelessness around the holidays.
Pray that God will comfort people overwhelmed by sorrow this Christmas. There are so many reasons for the pain and hopelessness.  Let us not forget the families of service members and law enforcement officers who have been killed or severely injured in the line of duty.  Also allow God to use you to be part of the solution as opportunities arise.
