Sunday April 22, 2018 “Old Prophets with Bad Advice”

1 Kings 13:11-14  11 Now an old prophet dwelt in Bethel, and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel; they also told their father the words which he had spoken to the king.  12 And their father said to them, “Which way did he go?” For his sons had seen which way the man of God went who came from Judah.  13 Then he said to his sons, “Saddle the donkey for me.” So they saddled the donkey for him; and he rode on it, 14 and went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak. Then he said to him, “Are you the man of God who came from Judah?” And he said, “I am.”
Good evening and welcome to the Sunday Night Edition of “We are the People” prayer for America.  Every Sunday we bring  together the hearts of intercessors that choose to invest a minimum of 15 minutes in prayers of agreement between the hours of 6 and 9 pm using the three focus points listed below as a guide.  May God bless you for your concern for America’s future expressed in prayer tonight.  We encourage you to join us in prayer daily and invite others to join us.
There is always someone in the house of God ready to tell all.  They will be willing participants who saddle the donkey and direct the path for those who will go after the man of God to test him.  Tonight we will use the verses above to guide us in prayer.
Prayer Focus #1: There are some older men of God who are a blessing to the younger and help to mentor them. Others, like the “old man” in the text will use testing tactics that are not good and righteous. This prophet led to the man of God in v. 18. The bible tells us “No liars of the truth.”
Pray that men of God, those younger in the faith will have discerning hearts when they are approached by the elders who always have a word for them but their motives are not pure.
Prayer Focus #2: The sons of the old man were used by him to accomplish his task. Pray that Christian believers will not find themselves dividing the house through aligning themselves with people of unclean hands that would ultimately result in destruction.
Prayer Focus #3: The old man used language that would appeal to the “man of God” ego. Are you the man of God? He would later lie to the man of God.  There are those who wear the badge “Christian” but their heart is far from the Lord. Let us pray that our president and other leaders will be careful with advice- even when it is Christians who offer those words. Pray that they check out all advice according to the Word of God.
