Sunday, August 19, 2018 “Down Came the Citadel”

1 Kings 16:18-20 And it happened, when Zimri saw that the city was taken, that he went into the citadel of the king’s house and burned the king’s house down upon himself with fire, and died, 19 because of the sins which he had committed in doing evil in the sight of the Lord, in walking in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin which he had committed to make Israel sin. 20 Now the rest of the acts of Zimri, and the treason he committed, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
Good evening and welcome to the Sunday Night Edition of “We are the People” prayer for America. Every Sunday we bring together the hearts of intercessors that choose to invest a minimum of 15 minutes in prayers of agreement between the hours of 6 and 9 pm using the three focus points listed below as a guide. May God bless you for your concern for America’s future expressed in prayer tonight. We encourage you to join us in prayer and invite others to join us.
Zimri the king led the charge in bringing down the stronghold of evil that had been built in Tirzah. Zimri was also aware of his own shortcomings and his reign as king was cut short.
Prayer Focus #1: The citadel was a palace or tower. It was the highest building and stood as and unconquerable stronghold, but Zimri was able to tear down the stronghold. Pray that our leaders in America will come against local and national strongholds of evil that have become places like Tirzah in the land. God gives leaders, as followers we have the responsibility to cover our communities with prayer and a godly example of righteousness through our lives.
Prayer Focus #2: Zimri was able to see that the city of darkness was overcome by the light of righteousness and judgement. Pray that those who lead us in righteousness will know when victory has come in the land and not end the struggle until it truly is over.
Prayer Focus #3: Because Zimri knew his own failures—like Samson of old—he brought down the palace on himself. In this dispensation of grace of the New Testament we must not take measures like Zimri did, but we must allow the Holy Spirit to cleanse our lives and refine us with the fire of holiness and love for God. Pray that our leaders will lead the way in repentance for what the “Fathers” of our land have allowed that have affected our lives. May our leaders submit to the refining of God that will cleanse them and bring them to the place of living truth and righteousness before those they lead. Areas of sin and unrighteousness must die before righteousness will spring forth in America.
