Sunday, December 9, 2018 “Prayers God Can Answer”

1 Kings 18:27-28 And so it was, at noon, that Elijah mocked them and said, “Cry aloud, for he is a god; either he is meditating, or he is busy, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he is sleeping and must be awakened. So they cried aloud, and cut themselves, as was their custom, with knives and lances, until the blood gushed out on them. When the priests of Baal considered that their God might be sleeping, they cried aloud thinking they might awaken him to action on their behalf.
Prayer Focus #1: Pray that God’s people will have an assurance that God will always hear and answer their prayers. The simplest prayer whispered from the lips of a child of God will be met with heaven’s response, “Let God arise and let His enemies be scattered.” The schemes of the priests of Baal were followed by the cutting of themselves to somehow show their god that they were desperate. Of course, there was no response. The only “cutting” that results in a clear channel prayer is the cutting away of the uncircumcision of the heart.
Prayer Focus #2: Pray that the people of God will always be ready to confess their sins when they err and repent of unrighteousness that negatively affects the prayers of the saints. To cut themselves with knives and lances was the custom of the Baal worshippers when they really needed to hear from heaven.
Prayer Focus #3: Pray that God’s people in America will develop some good customs or habits concerning intercession like speaking God’s word in prayer, fasting and praying specifically about people and situations when interceding on the behalf of our country.
