Sunday, February 3, 2019 “Super Bowl Message”

1 Kings 19:12-14 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. 13 So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 14 And he said, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts; because the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.”
Good evening and welcome to the Sunday Night Edition of “We are the People” prayer for America.  Every Sunday we bring together the hearts of intercessors that choose to invest a minimum of 15 minutes in prayers of agreement between the hours of 6 and 9 pm using the three focus points listed below as a guide.  May God bless you for your concern for America’s future expressed in prayer tonight.  We encourage you to join us in prayer daily and invite others to join us.
Among all of the noise drowning the big game tonight there will be the voice of the commercials. Without their message there would be no game. Elijah experienced wind, earthquake and now fire. Quakes and wind can move a person but fire consumes. God’s message to the Prophet Elijah was not in the fire but it would prepare him to hear that still small voice of God. Verse 14 was a repeat of what the prophet said recorded in v. 10 God wasn’t interested in a news report. He wanted Elijah to make the headlines and he would.
Prayer Focus #1 Elijah wrapped his face in his mantle which signified humility and the fear of the Lord. Pray that all leaders in D.C. and state capitals will be moved by the Spirit and humbled before God as they make decisions that will bless their constituencies.
Prayer Focus #2 Elijah stood at the entrance of the cave. This is a type of the “valley of decision.” The prophet stood there. He was ready to retreat or go forward with the Lord. Pray that God’s people will choose to move forward with God like an offense in tonight’s game—ready to move the football toward the goal. We don’t need leaders who simply want to “hold the fort.”
Prayer Focus #3 The prophet heard the still small voice of God saying, “What are you doing here?” Pray that all of us will take this to heart. What are we doing that does not profit in our nation becoming a nation under God once again. And what can we do in this new year to see America turn back to God and His ways over the next 11 months. In tonight’s football game the two teams will change strategies and adjust resources in their attempt to win the Super Bowl.
