Sunday September 6, 2020 “God’s Lamp For Our Future”
2 Kings 8:16-19 Now in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab, king of Israel, Jehoshaphat having been king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat began to reign as king of Judah. 17 He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. 18 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab had done, for the daughter of Ahab was his wife; and he did evil in the sight of the LORD. 19 Yet the LORD would not destroy Judah, for the sake of His servant David, as He promised him to give a lamp to him and his sons forever.
Good evening and welcome to the Sunday Night Edition of “We are the People” Prayer for America. Every Sunday we bring together the hearts of intercessors that choose to invest a minimum of 15 minutes in prayers of agreement between the hours of 6:00p.m. and 9:00p.m. using the three focus points listed below as a guide. May God bless you for your concern for America.
King Joram reigned 8 years over Israel. In November our president will be elected to a second 4 year term or a new president will have the potential of serving 8 years. With this in mind, let us pray today as we focus on 3 points we find in this text that will help us pray effectively concerning America’s future.
Prayer Focus #1 What a legacy – to be known as a person who did evil in God’s eyes. Pray for our current and future leaders in America following the November elections that they will not wear the tag, “This person did evil in God’s eyes.” Pray that the Holy Spirit will deal with leaders and draw them into the paths of righteousness.
Prayer Focus #2 God would not destroy His people who were going bad because of His promise to King David in 2 Samuel 7:12-13. Pray that people who are leaders in America will not think that God’s blessings will flow forever if they do evil. Many times God remembers the prayers and commitments of former leaders who had a heart for God and this nation.
Prayer Focus #3 God promised David and his seed a lamp so they might walk uprightly and follow the Lord’s will and purpose for His people. Pray that our leaders will have an ear for God and follow Ps. 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” That lamp will never grow dim. It will light the darkest path one step at a time.
