Sunday October 3, 2021 “In God We Trust”
2 Kings 18:20
20 You speak of having plans and power for war; but they are [mere words. And in whom do you trust, that you rebel against me?
Good evening and welcome to the Sunday Night Edition of “We are the People” Prayer for America. Every Sunday we bring together the hearts of intercessors that choose to invest a minimum of 15 minutes in prayers of agreement between the hours of 6:00p.m. and 9:00p.m. using the three focus points listed below as a guide. May God bless you for your concern for America’s future expressed in prayer tonight. We encourage you to join us in prayer daily and invite others to join us.
The King of Assyria sent his top three military leaders to give this message to King Hezekiah. There are times when representatives of nations bring messages that are not completely true but are meant to warn or scare people into making rash and wrong decisions. Let us pray today that America will not accept or supposedly send messages that are not true to other nations.
Prayer Focus #1 The messengers said that Hezekiah was making plans for war against Assyria. Pray tonight that lies, exaggerations and messages not sent by proper authority would not be delivered to friend or foe by people who are not sent by those in authority but by their own inclinations or y wrong sources.
Prayer Focus #2 The words that King Hezekiah supposedly spoke are referred to as “mere words.” Words without power is what Hezekiah was accused of using. The Bible tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue. Pray that our leaders will be careful with words they use casually or as a matter of public policy. Also pray that we the church will watch how we use our words and may be truth.
Prayer Focus #3 The King of Assyria questioned Hezekiah’s trust that caused him to rebel against Assyria. The Psalmist wrote “Some trust in chariots, some in horses but we remember the name of the Lord our God.” As we near election time, let us pray that men and women who truly trust in the Name of the Lord our God will be elected and show their trust in decision making that may not be popular, but it will be Biblical. There needs to be a little rebellion against ungodliness.
