Sunday October 10, 2021 “Discerning Ears”
2 Kings 18:25-26
“25 Have I now come up without the Lord against this place to destroy it? The Lord said to me, ‘Go up against this land, and destroy it.’ ”26 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, Shebna, and Joah said to the Rabshakeh, “Please speak to your servants in Aramaic, for we understand it; and do not speak to us in [a]Hebrew in the hearing of the people who are on the wall.”
Good evening and welcome to the Sunday Night Edition of “We are the People” Prayer for America. Every Sunday we bring together the hearts of intercessors that choose to invest a minimum of 15 minutes in prayers of agreement between the hours of 6:00p.m. and 9:00p.m. using the three focus points listed below as a guide. May God bless you for your concern for America’s future expressed in prayer tonight. We encourage you to join us in prayer daily and invite others to join us.
The enemy tried to convince God’s people that the Lord sent Assyria to destroy Jerusalem which was a lie. There are always people and groups of people who try to put a bad face on God so people won’t trust Him.
Prayer Focus #1 Rabshakeh, messenger of Sennacherib, king of Assyria, told Hezekiah’s men that God sent him to destroy Jerusalem. That would be like a thief knocking at your door and telling you that God sent him to rob you blind. Pray that our leaders in Washington and State governments will be able to discern God’s voice from the enemy’s voice: John 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” We must live by truth and as the time approaches vote according to truth, so we won’t be deceived into wrong beliefs that create fear not faith and trust in God.
Prayer Focus #2 Rabshakeh said the Lord was with him. This was to make it seem as though God switched horses in the midst of the stream. God is not one who threatens and lies, so what Rabshakeh said was not true, God’s people should have known that God was on their side, and they should reject the words of the messenger. Pray that “religious talk” whether it be domestic or foreign will be rightly discerned. God’s people understanding the Word of God and measuring the words of men by it empowers believers to always being on God’s side of issues.
Prayer Focus #3 The messengers of king Hezekiah told the messenger of Sennacherib to speak a language that only they could understand so the “common people” would not be afraid because of what was being said. Pray that our leaders in America will speak to John Q. Public in such a way that all can understand and make decisions including our vote according to what is clearly understood not in a way “the professionals present it.”
