Genesis 18:26-33

26 So the Lord said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.”27 Then Abraham answered and said, “Indeed now, I who am but dust and ashes have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord: 28 Suppose there were five less than the fifty righteous; would You destroy all of the city for lack of five? “So He said, “If I find there forty-five, I will not destroy it.29 And he spoke to Him yet again and said, “Suppose there should be forty found there? “So He said, “I will not do it for the sake of forty.”30 Then he said, “Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Suppose thirty should be found there? “So He said, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.” 31 And he said, “Indeed now, I have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord: Suppose twenty should be found there? “So He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of twenty.”32 Then he said, “Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak but once more: Suppose ten should be found there? “And He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.” 33 So the Lord went His way as soon as He had finished speaking with Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place.

Good evening and welcome to the Sunday Night Edition of “We are the People” Prayer for America.  Every Sunday we bring together the hearts of intercessors that choose to invest a minimum of 15 minutes in prayers of agreement between the hours of 6:00p.m. and 9:00p.m. using the focus point listed below as a guide. May God bless you for your concern for America’s future expressed in prayer tonight.  We encourage you to join us in prayer daily and invite others to join us.

Abraham speaks to God as one would an ally which He was a friend of God the Bible says. Even though Abraham was a friend, he showed great respect for the one who could change the course of history for 2 cities of the ancient world – Sodom and Gomorrah.

Prayer Focus #1: Pray that there will be a spirit of humility by America’s leaders as we interact with others as a leader among the nations

Prayer Focus #2: As President Ronald Reagan said, “There must be peace through strength.” Let us pray that our leaders will have that spirit regarding our military and negotiations with other nations that only understand that kind of attitude mixed with humility mentioned in Focus #1.

Prayer Focus #3: In verse 33, the Lord and Abraham went their separate ways. Pray that America’s leaders will know when negotiations both with foreign powers and within our country regarding the branches of government respect, honor and when going in separate directions – do so only after all attempts are made to negotiate in a fair and godly manner.
