Friday July 12, 2013 “Seeing but not Possessing” Part 5
Numbers 27:16-17 “Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, 17 who may go out before them and go in before them, who may lead them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord may not be like sheep which have no shepherd.”
How magnanimous Moses is. He has just been reminded that he will not be able to lead Israel into the blessed land that God had prepared for His people. Moses is not angry with God nor does he justify his prior actions that resulted in him only seeing the land but not entering after 40 years of wandering.
Moses was desirous for the Israelites to possess what he himself could not due to his disobedience. This unique man not only desired for his people to enjoy the land but he also wanted God to provide for them a leader who would guard, guide and lead them like a Shepherd does for the sheep. This would insure their safety, maturity and fruitfulness in the land.
Can we pray in agreement today that current leaders will desire to see good and godly people take the baton from their hand and lead us into a better future for our cities, states and nation – putting the good of the whole above even their own ambitions or desires. Psalm 75:7 “God is judge: He puts down one and exalts another.”
