Friday July 19, 2013 “Guided By the Spirit of God”

Numbers 27:2121 He shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire before the Lord for him by the judgment of the Urim. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, he and all the children of Israel with him—all the congregation.”   These are unusual words to most people – “The judgment of the Urim”.  Eleazar, being a priest, was a spokesman to God for the people. In the Hebrew scripture there is reference to the Urim and the Thummim. Many Bible scholars believe this to be something like two stones placed behind the breastplate of the High Priest that would give a signal for directing God’s people.  A wise leader like Joshua would request guidance for his people according to the priest’s direction as he heard from God.
Today let us pray a prayer of agreement that our leaders will humbly surround themselves with truly godly counsel from men of God who take their calling seriously and speak only what God has for them to say.
