Monday August 5, 2013 “Unholy Alliance”

1 Sam 27:5-7  5 “Then David said to Achish, “If I have now found favor in your eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there. For why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?” 6 So Achish gave him Ziklag that day. Therefore Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah to this day. Now the time that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was one full year and four months”.
King David had made an unholy alliance with the enemies of God’s people, the Philistines.  This was forbidden in God’s law and in Israel’s history – the nation had been chastened due to such connections.  The children of Israel always suffered loss when they entered relationships with people and nations that did not serve the one true God.
This day let us ask God for forgiveness that our nation and leaders have entered into such relationships.  We who are Christians, who have forged such relationships with others through consent or desperation, must also repent of the alliances we have entered into.
