Tuesday August 6, 2013 “Disappointment Leads to Godly Sorrow”

1 Sam 30:1-4  “Now it happened, when David and his men came to Ziklag, on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the South and Ziklag, attacked Ziklag and burned it with fire, and had taken captive the women and those who were there, from small to great; they did not kill anyone, but carried them away and went their way. So David and his men came to the city, and there it was, burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters had been taken captive. Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep.”
David’s unholy alliance with Achish led to the loss of all he and his men held dear.  Ziklag was given to David by request and now the city had been burned and the people confiscated by the enemy.  They enemy of our souls will allow us many times to have temporary satisfaction but then there is a price to be paid that is much more than we gained from unholy alliance or agreements to do wrong.
Our cities have been burned through behavior that leads to destruction:  drugs and alcohol  help us “cope” for a season, Christians marrying non-Christians seems to satisfy the desire for love for a season. Adultery, homosexuality, violence, seems like a thrill  for the moment then reality sets in like what happened with David and his men at Ziklag.
Pray today that our eyes be open to loss we have suffered by disobedience to God through unholy alliances and that the pain we suffer as we see how we as individuals,  cities and a nation have been burned, will repent and forge good relationships that bring God’s blessings in life.
