Monday Sept 2, 2013 “Work –Blessing or Curse”

Today we will take a 1 day break from praying for students and teachers in this new school year.
Today is Labor Day .  A special time set apart to remember how much things have changed in the past 100 years in the area of employment.
In the 1800’s,  it was not rare for a person to work 70-80 hours a week. Labor Unions gave way to labor laws that helped cut that back and also child labor laws have virtually eliminated what was tantamount to child slavery.  We should take time to give thanks for these blessing in America.
Of course as with all things, the pendulum swings in the opposite direction and there is need of a correction.  Jesus said that He came to do the work of Father God, thus honoring and sanctifying the workplace.  Adam was given a job in the very beginning days of humanity.  He kept the Garden and Adam named the animals as God brought them to the man created in God’s image and likeness.  God was including Adam in His work.
The Bible warns in 2Thessaonians 3:10 “If a man doesn’t work, he should not eat”.  This of course reveals the lack of good work ethic in that day.  At times our government enslaves people to the total “giveaway” of not only food but everything else that pertains to human existence. Many times it is unintentional but the result is still the erosion of a good work ethic.
On this day called “Labor Day” let’s take time to thank God for our work and the opportunity to still work with God to see our nation continue to develop and thrive.  A week from today let’s live T.G.I.M “Thank God it’s Monday” so others can see the blessing of joyful hard work as being a part of God’s plan and pray for American workers to once again adopt the idea of an honest day’s wage for an honest day’s work.
