Tuesday September 17, 2013 “Sacrifice in Prayer”

King Solomon had been to Gibeon where he witnessed a thousand animals being sacrificed to God.  His mind and heart would be filled with thoughts of God’s holiness, the horribleness of sin (because of the required sacrifice), and the great cost of the atonement provided.  This opened Solomon to new possibilities.
In this context Solomon lay down that night with a sense of personal weakness and unworthiness and God appears to him in a dream with an offer to lavish the king with his heart’s desire without limitations.
May God open our eyes to current and past sacrifices made so we can be the people of freedom that we are as Americans.   And may we hear God say to us, “So, what shall I give you so you might be my people in the land?”
