John 9:1-5 “Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. 2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. 4 I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
Jesus had just left His Father’s House, the Temple, where He declared Himself to be the Light of the World. He then came upon the man born blind. Unfortunately, many people in that day believed blindness was always the result of the parents or the person born blind (verse 2).
In verse 3 Jesus brings correction to this idea and reveals the fact that there are times when God simply desires to show forth His majesty by healing a person. Jesus also allowed a close friend, Lazarus, to actually die so He might raise the man from the dead so that God would be glorified. John 11:4
Welcome tonight to our time together as we offer prayers of agreement from 6-9pm (all US time zones). It is asked that you pray at least 15 minutes concerning the following three prayer points.
Focus #1: There is so much focus on who was responsible for a misdeed or unfortunate event that the answer (God) is rarely sought out for a solution. Pray that as a nation we would turn to the Lord for the remedy for the darkness we experience in our day – He is the light of the world.
Focus #2: Pray that the issues we face today in society would shift from “the blame game”, where everyone becomes a victim including the perpetrator, to a focus on illumination of the heart by Jesus Christ (verse 5).
Focus #3: Verse 4 tells us that there is a limited time we have in which to work. Pray that Christians in America be moved by the urgency of the hour. Jesus understood this fact and practiced doing the Father’s work while He could. We should follow His example and bring light to the darkness.
