Nehemiah 3:1-4 “Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests and built the Sheep Gate; they consecrated it and hung its doors. They built as far as the Tower of the Hundred, and consecrated it, then as far as the Tower of Hananel. 2 Next to Eliashib the men of Jericho built. And next to them Zaccur the son of Imri built. 3 Also the sons of Hassenaah built the Fish Gate; they laid its beams and hung its doors with its bolts and bars. 4 And next to them Meremoth the son of Urijah, the son of Koz, made repairs. Next to them Meshullam the son of Berechiah, the son of Meshezabel, made repairs. Next to them Zadok the son of Baana made repairs.”
Last Sunday we began a week long prayer emphasis based upon the Book of Nehemiah. Tonight as we pray in agreement from 6-9pm (all time zones) we will continue our prayer focus on that book.
Chapter 3 is filled with names of those who took part in this great work of God. Emerson wrote “every man’s task is his life preserved.” In the case of rebuilding Jerusalem beginning with the walls, this truth is powerfully punctuated in this story.
The many names are memorialized like the woman who anointed Jesus’ feet. It is said of her “she wrought a good work for God’s glory”. Holy work stands like footprints on the sands of time. Some brief, others the work of a lifetime. Noah spent 120 years on the ark, Nehemiah and crew completed their task in 52 days.
Notice in the text that some built, others made repairs. Verse 5 of this chapter says the nobles of the Tekoites did not put their shoulders to the work of the Lord.
This brings us to our three prayer focuses. It is asked that you invest at least 15 minutes in intercession tonight and follow the daily blogs this week.
Prayer Focus #1: That people who are not actively engaged in God’s work begin to “shoulder the load” in our churches and ministries that help to rebuild and reshape America in our day. We have lost much semblance of “Nation under God” but that will change as more of us work together.
Prayer Focus #2: That those who can will repair the walls around our land by obedience to God’s word and encouraging others by their influence to value God’s truth in restoring righteousness.
Prayer Focus #3: Pray that God will convict those who can be builders of walls, gates and doors in bringing safety to America and that they will rise up and work together. Perhaps there can be the energy of the young and resources of the seasoned saints come together.
