Thursday April 3, 2014 “Because of the Fear of the Lord”

Nehemiah 5:14-15 “14 Moreover, from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year until the thirty-second year of King Artaxerxes, twelve years, neither I nor my brothers ate the governor’s provisions. 15 But the former governors who were before me laid burdens on the people, and took from them bread and wine, besides forty shekels of silver. Yes, even their servants bore rule over the people, but I did not do so, because of the fear of God.”
Nehemiah being Governor of Judah could have used funds set aside for the governor’s use like others did before him but he refused to. Why? Because the funding would come from the people who were already overburdened by heavy handed government rule.
Nehemiah refused to exact any more from his people because he feared the Lord. He knew that one day he would stand before God in judgment for how his policies impacted God’s people.
Please pray with me for our bloated governmental systems at all levels that know nothing but to “tax and spend”. Pray that there would be an awesome fear of the Lord that will guide those who govern.  America has found itself in the place where we must, for the well-being of our citizens, live within our means as we do as family units.  Pray that there be genuine concern for our citizens who make our country great.
