Sunday April 13, 2014 “Being in Step with God”

Mark 11:1-6 “Now when they drew near Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, He sent two of His disciples; 2 and He said to them, “Go into the village opposite you; and as soon as you have entered it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has sat. Loose it and bring it. 3 And if anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it,’ and immediately he will send it here.” 4 So they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door outside on the street, and they loosed it. 5 But some of those who stood there said to them, “What are you doing, loosing the colt?” 6 And they spoke to them just as Jesus had commanded. So they let them go.”
Jerusalem would be the end of Jesus’ earthly journey. He understood all that would happen to him and the disciples over the next week. We will continue to look at the Book of Nehemiah on Monday April 21.
Tonight we begin a week long journey that takes us from Jesus being hailed as King to people rejecting Christ being convinced He was sent from H.E…. well – you know where.
I want you to see with me tonight that Jesus, knowing where all this was heading, had His disciples involved in some unusual activity (procuring the colt) to be used in presenting God’s King to the watching world.
As we agree tonight in prayer for at least 15 minutes between the hours of 6 and 9pm (all time zones) let us capture the heart of God and the obedience of the Apostles.
Prayer Focus #1: That all of God’s people in America will listen to the voice of God in our day and be in tune with His timing for America. “Today is the day of salvation and the acceptable time.” 2 Corinthian 6:2
Had the disciples put off their task – we would not be agreeing in prayer tonight because Jesus would not have gone to the cross in the Father’s timing. “Obedience is better than sacrifice.” 1 Samuel 15:22
Prayer Focus #2: Jesus said “go to the village opposite you”. A little play on words here but can we pray that we who believe will be willing to step into ministry and people’s lives that are not natural to us as individuals. Many times we focus on the “low hanging fruit” (the familiar) and we miss the opportunity for the miraculous. Remember, Peter did not believe that the gospel was for the Gentiles (those outside of Israel). He could have missed the opportunity at Cornelius’ house in Acts 10. Let’s not miss unusual God-given opportunity because it is opposite our natural circles of life.
Prayer Focus #3: “As soon as you have entered it you will find a colt.” Pray that a spirit of expectation be upon all who believe in America. That we truly believe that we will find the answers to what must be done in our cities before it is too late. The recent stabbing in a Murraysville, Pennsylvania school reminds us of the effect of evil in our world today. Perhaps a person “opposite” the troubled 16 year old perpetrator could have stepped into that life soon enough to have prevented the tragedy.
