Saturday May 10, 2014 “Every Day and more on Sunday”

Nehemiah 8:18    “18 Also day by day, from the first day until the last day, he read from the Book of the Law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day there was a sacred assembly, according to the prescribed manner.”
The discipline of following Jesus is a day by day habit of prayer, God’s Word and obedience. The people of Nehemiah’s day heard God’s Word daily. This enabled them to keep the feast and it led them to gather for a sacred assembly according to the word of God. Hebrews 10:25 tells us that we are not to forsake assembling together as a people. In the Book of Acts the church gathered daily for prayer and the word of God but on the first day of the week the church gathered for encouragement and teaching.
We live in a day where people have minimized the power of the personal touch and inter-personal relationships. I believe this has led to a less-powerful church – “Divide (keep people separated) and then conquer is Satan’s game. Pray today that we as God’s people would both find the value of the Acts 2 small groups and the larger celebration of the sacred assembly in our local churches.
