Monday May 12, 2014 “Mercy Triumphs”

Nehemiah 9:18-19    “18 “Even when they made a molded calf for themselves,
And said, ‘This is your god that brought you up out of Egypt,’ and worked great provocations, 19 Yet in Your manifold mercies You did not forsake them in the wilderness. The pillar of the cloud did not depart from them by day, to lead them on the road; Nor the pillar of fire by night, to show them light, and the way they should go.”
Today we return to the Book of Nehemiah where we find God’s people moving toward resettlement and possession of their land following their many years of captivity in foreign lands.
God reminds His people of His great mercy through Nehemiah even when they committed acts of idolatry that provoked the Lord to jealousy and anger.
The “American Dream” can become somewhat of an idol in our day. Many sacrifice much to pursue what they believe is an entitlement. They pursue things at the expense of family, friends, and at times their faith.
Pray today that people in America caught up in “idolatry” will see the futility of their pursuits and see God with his hands of mercy outstretched toward His people because of His great love for them. Pray for individuals you now and for our nation to return to the God who has never forsaken us in our wilderness journeying.
