Isaiah 58:13 “If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath,
From doing your pleasure on My holy day, And call the Sabbath a delight,
The holy day of the LORD honorable, And shall honor Him, not doing your own ways,
Nor finding your own pleasure, Nor speaking your own words,
The Prophet addresses the disregard toward the Lord’s Day practiced by His people. He calls them to turn from their own pleasure – like it’s simply a “day off”. It’s much more than that. The “Sabbath” is to be a day dedicated to the worship of God, hearing the Word of God by an anointed preacher and fellowship with the saints.
God then promises that He will lift us up and let us enjoy the heritage of our spiritual fathers like Jacob in Verse 14.
Pray today that there be a fresh understanding of the gift of Sabbath that God has given to man. “The Sabbath is made for man.”
