Monday January 19, 2015 “Eye for an Eye?”

Matthew 5:38-39 “38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.”
Although the word of God taught “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth”, Jesus “lifts the lid” on the level of righteousness practiced by God’s people.  Jesus teaches us to overcome evil with good.  Pray today that we in America will practice forgiveness and non-retaliating response to harm done by others – leaving things up to God and the courts.  On this Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, let us follow that example he gave to us all.
