Monday February 23, 2015 “The Face of a Fast”
Matthew 6:16 “16 “Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.”
In Isaiah 58 the Lord asks, “Is this a fast I have called?” In Jesus’ day the Pharisees fasted, John the Baptist and the Lord Himself fasted. In Acts chapters 13 and 14 the early church fasted and prayed. Fasting is a way to discipline our thoughts and prayers toward God’s will.
Let us join in prayer that in setting ourselves and our prayers in God’s direction, undisturbed by the things of this world yet not appearing so outwardly, we will see the results of blessing around them as Isaiah 58 promises.
Today, let us also pray that God speaks to the hearts of many Americans to pray on the behalf of our country and as He should lead, through the Holy Spirit’s leading, add the extra dimension of Spirit-led fasting.
