Sunday July 5, 2015 “Words from the Fathers”

Welcome to the Sunday Night Edition of “We are the People”.  On this Independence Day Weekend I thought it would be appropriate to focus our prayers on quotes from our forefathers concerning America.
As many of you know it is asked that you invest a minimum of 15 minutes in prayers of agreement concerning three prayer points between the hours of 6 and 9pm (all time zones).  May God bless you as you intercede for this wonderful nation and it is asked that you invite friends and family to join us tonight.
Prayer Focus #1:  Following weeks of work on our constitution with little progress during the summer of 1787, Benjamin Franklin spoke to the assembly:  “… we had daily prayers in this room for Divine Protection.  Our prayers, Sirs, were heard and were graciously answered … have we now forgotten this Powerful Friend?”
When we sing “God Bless America” we are reminded of where our greatness as a nation came from.  It seems that today we have forgotten our Divine Benefactor.  In our prayer tonight let us lift our voices in agreement that God help us to see the fact that who we are and what we have become is the result of His grace poured out upon us and that we humbly turn back to our Holy and Gracious God.
Prayer Focus #2:  Noah Webster said, “The moral principles and precepts contained in the scriptures ought to form the basis of all civil constitutions and laws.  All the miseries and evils which men suffer from vice, crime, ambition, injustice, oppression, slavery and war proceeds from their despising or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible.”  Webster understood the authority and power of the word of God to shape culture and save a nation.  Recently the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled that the monument of the Ten Commandments (symbolizing God’s word) be removed from the state capital.  One place the word of God cannot be removed from is the hearts of Christ followers.  Pray in agreement tonight that believers all over America be committed to allowing the light of God’s word to shine a guiding light to those around us by living God’s word as “Living Letters” as St. Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 3:2.
Prayer Focus #3:  The first Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court John Jay authored these words, “It is our duty as a Christian nation to select and prefer Christian men as our rulers.  As of this day, constitutional law requires that all elected officials must take the Oath of Faith which states: “I do profess faith in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ; His only Son, and I hereby acknowledge the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be given by Divine Inspiration, and do hereby support the Holy Bible for use in our schools.”  How far we have drifted as a nation.  Many believe that the Bible would be like a poison to a student.
Let us pray in agreement tonight that all Christians in America do two things: that if they have children in public school – send them with a small Bible or devotional to read at appropriate times.  Number two – pray for courage in the church of America to make known their voice in the market place concerning Biblical truth and that when they vote for public officials they would hold politicians to the standards John Jay proposed so many years ago in the infancy of our nation.
