Sunday July 10, 2016 “The Smile of Heaven”
It was April 30, 1789 that George Washington swore the office as president of the United States before approximately 10,000 spectators at Federal Hall in New York City.
Upon completing the oath there was a thunderous ovation and church bells rang announcing this event that has changed the world. Washington acknowledged the applause with a humble bow and went to address Congress with the nation’s first inaugural address.
Washington made it clear that America must not stray from Divine principles saying these words in his speech:
“We ought to be no less persuaded that the propitious smiles of Heaven, can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right, which Heaven itself has ordained: And since the preservation of the sacred fire of liberty, and the destiny of the Republican model of Government, are justly considered as deeply, perhaps as finally staked, on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people.”
Good evening and welcome to the Sunday Night Edition of “We Are The People” intercessory prayer for America.
There is a daily single prayer focus to use as a guide but on Sunday 6-9 pm (all time zones) it is asked that partners invest a minimum of 15 minutes following three focus points.
With the Fourth of July just passed, I thought it would be good to remind us what kind of people our Founding Fathers were. They understood the principle that blessings flow from heaven when Father God is honored and His Word held in high esteem.
God bless you and thank you for joining us tonight and every Sunday night and please let others know about WeAreThePeople.me.
Prayer Focus #1 Washington brings clarity to the point: This or any other nation can never expect to be blessed by the God of heaven if it disregards the eternal rules of order and right.
Let us pray first a prayer asking forgiveness because America has strayed from God’s Word and then that we return to the root of trust and obedience our Fathers established in the beginning of this wonderful nation.
Prayer Focus #2 President Washington references “the sacred fire of liberty” in his address. The apostle Paul told his son in the faith, Timothy, to stir up the gifts in his life and don’t be timid about his faith.
Pray that kind of prayer over not only your “children” in the faith, but also pray for spiritual Fathers and leaders in America. We need a return of the sacred fire of liberty to burn in the hearts of all Americans once again or we will find ourselves enslaved to evil and godless leaders.
Prayer Focus #3 Our first president saw this republic as a government entrusted to the hands of the American people. It seems that in recent years “of the people, by the people and for the people” has been kicked to the curb in favor of government placed in the hands of a few political elite.
Pray tonight that our nation return to that form of government which places the destiny of the nation in the hands of our citizenry once again. We the people have formed this union and we can be trusted to see it fulfil its God-given destiny that will be worthy of the smile of heaven.
Please pray for the victims and their families and those wounded in the Dallas shootings and that justice would be served . Also that a spirit of calm would be brought to our country in this time of tensions.
