Sunday September 3, 2023“Know What You are Doing”
Genesis 26:9-10
9 Then Abimelech called Isaac and said, “Quite obviously she is your wife; so how could you say, ‘She is my sister’? “Isaac said to him, “Because I said, ‘Lest I die on account of her.’ ”10 And Abimelech said, “What is this you have done to us? One of the people might soon have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt on us.”
Good evening and welcome to the Sunday Night Edition of “We are the People” Prayer for America. Every Sunday we bring together the hearts of intercessors that choose to invest a minimum of 15 minutes in prayers of agreement between the hours of 6:00p.m. and 9:00p.m. using the focus point listed below as a guide. May God bless you for your concern for America’s future expressed in prayer tonight. We encourage you to join us in prayer daily and invite others to join us.
Abimelech was not a believing man, but he called to question what Isaac had done. As believers we are called to be open, honest and transparent before God and man. When we are upright before God, we should not fear the scrutiny of the world.
Prayer Focus #1 The Bible teaches us that “No lie is of the truth.” As we are involved in the 2023 and 2024 election campaigns, let us pray that politicians will have truth as their primary focus. Truth results in freedom and that is what we need in America today.
Prayer Focus #2 Isaac’s answer to Abimelech concerning why he lied to him was “lest I die on account of her.” In other words, Isaac was not willing to suffer loss for what was potential loss. Pray that politicians will desire to always do what is right and build their platform on what is right regardless of political losses for righteousness’ sake.
Prayer Focus #3 Abimelech told Isaac, “What have you done to us? We could have perished.” Pray that people will not only pursue what is right as leaders make decisions but also how those decisions and policies might affect others. Its not only about being right, it is about limiting collateral damage bringing right things into American life.
