Sunday December 17, 2023“Mandrakes”
Genesis 30:14-16
14 Now Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them to his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, “Please give me some of your son’s mandrakes.”15 But she said to her, “Is it a small matter that you have taken away my husband? Would you take away my son’s mandrakes also? “And Rachel said, “Therefore he will lie with you tonight for your son’s mandrakes.”16 When Jacob came out of the field in the evening, Leah went out to meet him and said, “You must come in to me, for I have surely hired you with my son’s mandrakes.” And he lay with her that night.”
Good evening and welcome to the Sunday Night Edition of “We are the People” Prayer for America. Every Sunday we bring together the hearts of intercessors that choose to invest a minimum of 15 minutes in prayers of agreement between the hours of 6:00pm and 9:00pm using the focus point listed below as a guide. May God bless you for your concern for America’s future expressed in prayer tonight. We encourage you to join us in prayer daily and invite others to join us.
It is believed that the mandrakes helped a woman get pregnant. So, when Rachel discovered that Ruben had found some mandrake, she asked his mother Leah if she could have some. When we look at this text, we find three ways to pray this evening:
Prayer Focus #1 Ruben was working in the time of wheat harvest and discovered something more in the field. Pray that as we labor in the whitened harvest fields to bring people to Christ, we will not overlook things of value to the Kingdom of God and the nation.
Prayer Focus #2 Rachel was willing to do anything to have a child of her own. She is found here dealing with her sister Leah in an attempt to receive something only God could give. Pray that God’s people in America will be able to distinguish what is attainable by man’s efforts and that which can only come from God. When what can only come in via will bring glory to God.
Prayer Focus #3 The requests made by Rachel seemed a little convoluted to the strange, but God’s will and purpose was fulfilled. Pray that God’s people will learn to give simple requests to God that will result in great blessings for America’s future.
