Genesis 35:2 “2 And Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves, and change your garments.”
Jacob knew that when God’s people make an altar and worship the Lord there must be some personal preparation of heart and life. Verse 2 for this chapter speaks to those preparations.
Jacob begins with “put away the foreign gods among you.” This can mean for us today either literal foreign gods – any other religious “blend” of the one true God of our roots as Americans (The God of the Bible) or the “gods” of gold, silver, pride, power, etc. Pray that we will release any attachments to these false gods and cling onto and lean in close to the one True Living God.
