Sunday, January 12, 2025 “Back to Genesis 42”

Genesis 42:5-6 5 And the sons of Israel went to buy grain among those who journeyed, for the famine was in the land of Canaan. 6 Now Joseph was governor over the land; and it was he who sold to all the people of the land. And Joseph’s brothers came and bowed down before him with their faces to the earth.

Good evening and welcome to the Sunday Night Edition of “We are the People” Prayer for America.  Every Sunday we bring together the hearts of intercessors that choose to invest a minimum of 15 minutes in prayers of agreement between the hours of 6:00pm and 9:00pm EST using the focus point listed below as a guide. May God bless you for your investment in the “We Are the People” movement that is helping to bring America back to God. We encourage you to join us in prayer daily and invite others to join us.

The famine hit all surrounding areas including where God’s people dwelled. In previous prayer blogs before we took a week’s break to follow a week of prayer from the Assemblies of God, we share that the Bible describes a famine as literal or a famine for hearing God’s Word. We can consider both in the three-prayer focus points this evening.

Prayer Point #1 Verse 5 reveals that being a believer does not “give us a pass.” We can be affected by famines. Pray that we will understand that we are not exempt from natural or spiritual famines. We must be vigilant in applying Biblical principles to the lack of bread and the word being heard and obeyed in our churches.

Prayer Point #2 Joseph had been sold into servanthood by his brothers years before, and now he held in his hand their ability to survive the famine. Pray that believers who have had differences in past years will reconcile so all might survive famines – natural or spiritual during the year ahead.

Prayer Point #3 Joseph’s brothers bowed down before him for even though the brothers didn’t recognize him – something told them that this man meant their survival. Pray that God’s people will have a discerning heart as to where provision can be found if they find themselves in a famine.
