Sunday December 14, 2014 “Wrong Reason to Fast”

Isaiah 58:4 “Indeed you fast for strife and debate, And to strike with the fist of wickedness.
You will not fast as you do this day, To make your voice heard on high.”
Welcome to our Sunday night edition of WeAreThePeople prayer for America. Sunday evening between the hours of 6 and 9 pm (all time zones). It is asked that we all join in prayers of agreement for a minimum of 15 minutes. Below you will find 3 focus points for prayer. Thank you for joining us tonight and we encourage you to invite a friend to intercede with us on the behalf of our beloved nation.

Focus #1 The Prophet wrote “You fast for strife and debate.” We are not to fast and pray to prove who is right and who is wrong. Our prayers should be to discover God’s righteous will in matters concerning the land and submit to His will being done on earth. Pray that we will put down the weapons of this word (debate and strife) and take up true spiritual weapons like prayer and fasting to discern God’s perfect will in our intercession. God calls us to a food fast not a food fight.
Focus #2 Isaiah speaks of those who “strike with the fist of wickedness”. It seems that some Americans have once again adopted this strong-arm approach to having their own way. Pray tonight that the spirit of anger and violence be broken in the lives of those who are attempting to take the law into their own hands and in so doing have become law breakers themselves.

Focus #3 The prophet says. “You will not fast as you do this day, to make your voice heard on high.” Fasting is to demonstrate brokenness and humility before God. It seems that God’s people were more concerned with being heard than accomplishing what is right.
Pray tonight that people who have a zeal to correct things that they perceive as unjust will turn their energies to a godly spiritual approach in situations we face in America today.
